An Exciting New Year

Hi all, Happy New Year!  I hope your year will be even better than the last.  It will definitely not be dull with all the already overheated political rhetoric.  With that in mind I offer you my new website www.lynnemillikenfineart.com, in the hope it will give you a happy break and the comforting thought that there is still peace and beauty to be found in our world.  In fact, the last few months have been dedicated to a new project affirming gifts from our natural world, resulting in a large duo show with my long time friend, clay artist,...

Summer News, 2014

Dear friends, Time marches on and here we are mid-summer 2014, already!  I spent most of the winter finishing a 20″x16″ painting of leaves and rocks as though I was looking down while walking along a mountain trail.  That perspective was an interesting challenge, to be sure.  Not sure why leaves hold such a fascination for me but I find myself being called back to painting them over and over.  My exercise machine, which sits next to my easel , is continually draped with branches with aspen leaves, cottonwood  specimens, and even a...

Art in the New Year

Hello and Happy New Year! You know, I get grumpy when the sun doesn’t stream into my home in the winter and I get grumpy when I don’t paint.  I can only solve one of these problems until the sun rises higher in the sky, but, even though my studio is on the north side of the house, the light there is even all day and perfect for painting.  So now you know where I am spending most of my time.  I’m embarrassed to say I  usually find myself in there inspecting yesterday’s progress even before the first cup of tea of the...

Sizzling Summer; Whew!

Elk Meadow Sunset  6″x12″ Summer Greetings, It has certainly been a hot one, but still beautiful as only Colorado can be. In the mountains where I am, the evenings  cool off just enough for sitting outside and stargazing.  Last night I found myself gazing out the window at a black bear ambling up the road ( that was a first!)  and the other morning I saw Bambi triplets outside my kitchen window.  They still had their spots but old enough to be at ease munching grass and be out without Mom, apparently. When I finally got my wits...

Summer Painting News

Summer Rain 24″ x 12″ Welcome to Summer!  This painting is certainly about wishful thinking right now as  our hearts are with those impacted by the forest fire west of Fort Collins.  Even from my mountain home many miles to the south I can see its haze drifting over our hills.  Last week, it was also hard to watch the news of golf ball sized hail and tornado sightings, of all things!, over my favorite painting sites and homes of  friends in Elbert County.  It has been a wild month! So after a brief jaunt to mid-coast California to...

Spring News!

A Special Dawn  20″x16″ Greetings! The sun is out and the snow is finally melting here in the mountains.  The painting shown here is a view from south of Elbert toward Pikes Peak, one of my favorite views.  It is currently showing in the Rotary Gallery at the Evergreen Players Theatre, with the official opening scheduled for this Friday, March 16, from 5 – 6:30 pm  before the opening of the  newest production by the Players.  Come join us, if you can. The show remains up through April 30th. It has been a busy few months...
